Football from Costa Caleta

The nearest decent level football for those of us living in Caleta de Fuste usually takes place in Puerto del Rosario, at Loz Pozos, the home of UD Fuerteventura.

UD Fuerteventura in Corralejo Unfortunately when last season finished it was necessary to do some work on the ground. At the start of the season it was hoped that the improvements would be compoleted by the end of September. Then at the end of September it was hoped that it would be completed by the end of October, and this being Fuerteventura it began to look as though we might be stranded in Coralejo for the whole season.

The crowds at Los Pozos are respectable for a team in the Secunda Division B of the Spanish league, and are about a thousand more than the average crowd for the games in Corralejo, so there was an urgent need to get on with the work, and it has now begun.

Still, the journey involved from Caleta to Corralejo has meant that only the more dedicated followers have been making it to the home games, and though there are not many of us it is not as bad as trudging up a motorway in the English winter, so we don't have too much to complain about.

The standard of football is not too bad, with decent skill levels. The referees can be prone to waving their cards around and there is usually a point in the game where almost everyone on the pitch joins in the discussions.

I always take my camera and though I am at least as interested in the football as the photography I like to see if I can take a better photo than that that appears in the local press. I'll let you judge if I have succeeded.
