Fauna Costa Caleta

Pirate the cat

There are many animals that live in and around Costa Caleta. The animal that springs to mind most readily when Caleta de Fuste is mentioned is the chipmunk. They even have a mountain named after them, though the correct name for Chipmunk Mountain is Montana Blanca. The mountain, which is more of a big hill, was the place that visitors used to go for a walk to see and feed the chipmunks, but as Caleta has developed up the hill, the chipmunks have moved and are most commonly seen on the coastal path.

Other furry animals include rabbits, voles and cats. The rabbits are not seen a great deal during the day. The voles provide a food source for the grey shrikes and grey herons.

The sea is teaming with a large number of species of fish, as well as other creatures such as sea cucumbers and octopus.

The reptiles are represented by at least one species of lizard, and the invertebrates include pretty things such as butterflies and dragonflies, as well as the less pretty things such as cockroaches and some rather large, but non poisonous spiders.
