There are regular events staged in Caleta and the municipality of Antigua. There is an experimental farm in the south of the municipality and this is where the two biggest events are staged. The FEAGA is an agricultural show that was visited by some 40 000 people in 2008. Most of the animals that show are goats, but there are also cattle, dogs, sheep and donkeys. The event is held over four days, and many of the visitors go in the hope of having their fill of cheese, wine and anything else that is being given away. There seems to be more of this sort of thing on offer on the first couple of days, but the Sunday is the best day to go because this is when the horse racing is held. This year donkey racing was added, and this was much more amusing than the horse racing.
The other big event hels there is the Feria Deportivo, or sports fair. This has exhibitions of traditional Canarian sports as well as information about a whole range of sports that you might not be aware were available on Fuerteventura. It is certainly worth going just to find out about what is available. There is also a tent that contains an ice rink, as well as a bungee jumping facilty.
The various villages in the municipality have their own festivals and the carnaval in Caleta has developed over the last few years. It is now an event that is worth travelling to as there are more and better quality shows associated with the event.
