Developments in Costa Caleta.

Costa Caleta is a man made resort that has expanded around the original El Castillo, as the town of Caleta is still known to the locals. There has been a rapid expansion in the last four years or so on the back of a property boom which saw development on all sides of the town.

A quick mental calculation tells me that there have been at least a thousand new homes built in this time, and I would not be surprised if the actual number was well over two thousand.

Costa Antigua, on the north side of the town has seen an expansion that has resulted in a change in character. What was once an area with a number of self-contained holiday complexes has changed into a more residential area. Many of the new and old houses and apartments are rented out to holidaymakers, but there are now three or four small supermarkets, as well as more than half a dozen options for eating out.

The area has been connected to the rest of the town by a pleasant coastal walk, that is lit in the evenings, as well as a road. The road is not very wide and has no lighting, as well as a couple of interesting blind spots. To add to this some of the tourists have taken to walking on it to save fifty yards.

Montana blanc, Caleta The building boom has eneded, but there are still many housing developments that have yet to be completed. The photo shows part of Montana Blanca, also known as Chipmunk Mountain. The current crane count is seven, but it was nine. The night time photos give a good idea about which parts have been completed.Montana blanc, Caleta The two cranes in the daytime photogarph are the ones on the right in the evening photo.

The properties at the top end of development have good views, with the majority of the properties facing east, towards the sea, or as is the case with the 19th hole development, to the south. The properties, as you might expect from the name overlook the golf courses.

New Sewer Pipe, Costa CaletaThe increase in the number of houses in the area has led to an increase in the population and there are plans in the pipeline to build a school and a health centre in the town.

A new depadura (sewage treatment plant) has been built to the north west of the town, and the photograph shows work on a new pipe that is being laid. This will take the effluence to an outlet that will be situated 400m from the shore.

The main beach in the town will also have a multi million euro upgrade starting some time towards the back end of the year. The locals businesses think that this upgrade has been overdue for several years, but new beaches have been created in tandem with the new hotels that have been constructed to the south of the town.
